Casualty Facultative Underwriter Trainee (Entry Level) - Chicago

Gen Re currently offers an excellent opportunity for a Casualty Facultative reinsurance Underwriter Trainee in our Chicago office.

Job Description:

Gen Re provides Underwriter Trainees with a high level of authority, productivity and empowerment early in their career. Initially, training is provided with an intensive program called “Jump School.” Our mentoring program also provides Underwriter Trainees the opportunity to manage a book of business.

All work is completed within teams; working effectively in a team environment is paramount. Successful candidates will possess a positive attitude, accept responsibility and accountability, technical aptitude, diverse interpersonal skills, ability to lead and are self-motivated.

As an Underwriter, this position offers a continuing variety of tasks. Underwriters work with our clients (i.e., insurance companies) in assessing individual risk and related volatility, by utilizing data research and rating models. Underwriters are responsible for understanding basic and standardized contracts and policy forms, negotiate the transfer of risk, pricing directly with the client. Underwriters are provided the opportunity to travel and meet face-to-face with clients.

On the marketing or sales side, Underwriters strive to build lasting relationships with their clients. Marketing efforts include a variety of touch points, including client entertainment, industry events, meetings/presentations, and written communication.

  • College degree – GPA 3.0 minimum.
  • Suggested majors: Liberal Arts, Risk Management, Economics, Business.
  • Prior intern or work-related industry experience.
  • Solid software skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong client/marketing presentation.
  • Capacity to work in a team environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and intellectual curiosity.
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
