We currently offer an excellent opportunity for Casualty Facultative reinsurance Underwriter Trainee in our Kansas City and San Francisco locations. Start Date: July 2017 or sooner

Your Role:

Gen Re provides Underwriter Trainees with a high level of authority, productivity and empowerment early in their career. Initially, training is provided with an intensive 8 week training program called “Jump School.” Our Gen Re mentoring program also provides Underwriter Trainees the opportunity to manage a book of business early in their careers.

All work is completed within teams; working effectively in a team environment is paramount. Successful candidates will possess a positive attitude, accept responsibility and accountability, technical aptitude, diverse interpersonal skills, ability to lead and are self-motivated.

As an Underwriter, this position offers a continuing variety of tasks. Gen Re Underwriters work with our clients (i.e. insurance companies) in assessing individual risk and related volatility, by utilizing data research and rating models. Underwriters are responsible for understanding basic and standardized contracts and policy forms, negotiate the transfer of risk, pricing directly with the client. Underwriters are provided the opportunity to travel and meet face-to-face with clients.

On the marketing or sales side, Underwriters strive to build lasting relationships with their clients. Marketing efforts include a variety of touch points, including client entertainment, industry events, meetings/presentations, and written communication.

  • Four year college degree. Suggested majors: Liberal Arts, Risk Management, Economics, Business
  • Minimum GPA 3.0.
  • Prior Intern or work-related industry experience is a plus
  • Solid software skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong client/marketing presentation.
  • Critical thinking; intellectual curiosity.
  • Capacity to work in a team environment.
  • U.S. citizen or Permanent resident.
