“The Future of Underwriting” is the topic of the current edition of Underwriting Focus. The insurance world, as well as the underwriting process, will be undergoing tremendous changes. Buzzwords – such as “digitalisation”, “big data” or “artificial intelligence” – are increasingly discussed in the media. Despite the fear of some pessimists, underwriters will not be made redundant, but their tasks will shift and adapt to future challenges. Tailor-made products will be the trend in product design. Better insights into disease risk, for example, will allow the offering of insurance cover to more and more individuals with pre-existing conditions, such as diabetes.
To be attractive to young people, the insurance industry will need to adapt to the expectations of the newer generations of digital users. A number of inter-industry cooperative ventures have begun promising approaches to master the challenges of digitalisation. All these topics will be addressed in this edition of our publication.
