General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an excellent opportunity for a Junior Actuarial Analyst in our newly instituted Qualitative Underwriting Support (QUS) team based at our London office.

Your Role

Quantitative Underwriting Support (QUS) will be a team of three providing technical pricing support for complex, unusual, or data-rich reinsurance treaties. This role sits within QUS and involves the pricing of risks in collaboration with underwriters throughout the year but especially at key reinsurance renewal dates. The role will include exposure across a broad range of lines of business and offers excellent scope for development.

The successful candidate for this role will be a trainee actuary with up to two years of experience. Exceptional candidates without actuarial experience will also be considered. Experience of working in the general insurance industry is desirable. The successful candidate will have an open and positive attitude and be self-motivated to learn and develop quickly in the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pricing of individual risks in close collaboration with underwriters
  • Preparing and communicating results to underwriters
  • Continual improvement of existing processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining risk databases for internal monitoring
  • Liaising with other areas of the business as required
  • Developing good working relationships with the underwriters
  • Ad hoc support for the wider Actuarial and Underwriting Teams as required

Your Profile

  • Excellent academic background of a technical/mathematical nature
  • Educated to degree level with a 2:1 or higher
  • Excellent Excel skills, ideally with some experience of VBA or similar programming language
  • Even though knowledge of specific computer languages is not required the successful candidate would be expected to quickly become competent in R
  • Experience with reinsurance pricing, especially Property, would be advantageous but is not required
  • Ability to review, analyse and present technical information concisely and effectively
  • Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with people from all areas of the business
  • Highly motivated and hardworking, with the ability to drive tasks forward and find solutions
  • Ability to work independently and deliver to deadlines
  • Actively sitting or willing to sit actuarial exams
  • Cultural fit for the team being open, willing, and approachable
  • Must be willing to actively “pitch in” during busy periods and be open to challenge
