General Reinsurance, London Branch (a subsidiary of General Reinsurance AG) is offering an excellent opportunity for a Senior Treaty Casualty Underwriter in our London office.

Your Role

This role is within the International Property and Casualty Reinsurance division with responsibility for structuring, underwriting, pricing, and portfolio management of the UK and Irish Cedant’s Casualty treaty book. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, communication skills, and in-depth knowledge of Casualty insurance and reinsurance.

Primary responsibilities

  • Underwrite (within the appropriate guidelines and within allocated authority) a book of Casualty treaty business. Potential business includes Public/Product Liability, Employers Liability, Environmental, Recall, Med Mal, Excess Casualty, PI, DO, FI, Cyber. This includes:
    • assessing portfolio risk and related volatility by utilizing industry data, research and risk modelling
    • pricing with the application of pricing models
    • developing market benchmarks based on industry data
    • contract wordings
    • deciding special acceptances
  • Frequent meeting activity with Casualty underwriters at existing and prospective Gen Re clients
  • Helping shape our strategy with respect to the development of the Casualty portfolio in London
  • Developing and communicating our value proposition to clients and colleagues alike
  • Participation in industry Casualty groups
  • Close connections to Gen Re treaty colleagues in Cologne and in other branches internationally, possibly supporting in offices with different renewal dates. At times, being the referral person for International Treaty within the Casualty line of business
  • Working closely with facultative and other business units within the Gen Re Group to deliver our products and services

Your Profile

  • 10 years of experience in insurance/reinsurance industry
  • Strong knowledge of treaty reinsurance concepts and processes
  • Strong knowledge of the Casualty insurance and reinsurance market
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong technological and math/analytical skills
